Worldcraft Technical
RM CreativeDeviceFromSurface() D3DRMERR_BADDEVICE
If you are running Windows in anything but 16-bit color, there is a good chance you will see this error. Changing the color depth to 16-bit should fix this.

You get the error message "DDRaw.DLL not found" :
You need to have DirectX installed to work Worldcraft. DirectX3 is the newest version and can be found on the Worldcraft homepage

You have some problems upgrading from version 1.0b to 1.2:
There is flaw in the upgrade patch for 1.2. You must upgrade worldcraft from the directory /program files/worldcraft. It is suggested that you reinstall worldcraft fresh from your CD to this directory then run the upgrade patch after that. There is also a bug in the QBSP.EXE found in the 1.2 patch, you will want to use the QBSP.EXE found in 1.0b, do not overwrite this version.

After Upgrading to 1.2, Problems with QBSP finding multiple texture wads:
There's a problem with the QBSP.EXE that was distributed with the upgrade patch for 1.2. You can go back to a previous version of QBSP, or download a new one.

After Upgrading to 1.2 Problems with QBSP reporting error in Token at line #x
There's a problem with the QBSP.EXE that was distributed with the upgrade patch for 1.2. You can go back to a previous version of QBSP, or download a new one.

Worldcraft crashes when you open a map or place a camera:
There are three known causes for this to happen;
  1. You are running an outdated version of DirectX. DirectX3 is the newest version. You will need to download a new version.
  2. You have your color settings in Windows set to 16 million colours. This can cause a problem with some 3D video cards; reduce the amount of colours.
  3. If you are using a 3D video card turn off your hardware acceleration. This can be found in the tools --> options --> 3D views menu.

Problems Using Vis Groups in 1.1:
There was a problem with 1.1 with Vis Groups. This is fixed in version 1.1a

Worldcraft crashes when I make a cylinder or a spike with greater than 16 sides:
Ben is aware of this problem. It will be fixed in version 1.3.

Where to find texture files :
In the newest versions (1.1a shareware, and 1.2 registered) there is an extract textures button in the tools --> options window.

Problems loading a BSP file into Worldcraft.
A BSP file is the compiled format of a Quake map. Unlike DOOM, it is not possible to de-compile a BSP. You need to get the original .MAP or .RMF file in order to edit it.

The textures in the browse window and the 3D view look bad
You probably have windows set to 256 colours. Worldcraft's looks best when windows is set to 16 bit colour mode.

"System Load Very High" warning.
Try lowering the undo levels under Tools -> Options.

When I run VIS it crashes.
It is more than likly that VIS hasn't crashed, but it still working. An average map can take several hours to vis on a pentium. A large map, especially with large open areas, could take much longer. It's best to let it run over night.

QBSP gives an error unable to allocate xxx bytes:
You have run out of disk space. QBSP uses up a HUGE amount of memory 60-100MB. Once you run out of memory windows95/NT will start to create a swap file on the hard drive. If that in turn runs out then QBSP will exit with that error. Try freeing up some hard drive space.
